J. Heron Lepper Temperance

Lodge No. 346, Carrickfergus · Dedicated 1913

J. Heron Lepper Temperance Masonic Lodge No. 346 has handed back its Warrant to the Grand Lodge of Ireland. These pages are preserved as a record of the Lodge's long and distinguished service to the Craft in Carrickfergus.

The Lodge was dedicated on 23rd April 1913 in the Masonic Hall, Carrickfergus by R. W. Bro. R. J. Hilton, Provincial Deputy Grand Master. Its Warrant had previously been held in Raphoe (from 1762), then in Launceston, Tasmania (from 1843 until 1890), and lay dormant until it was issued to Carrickfergus in 1913.

The Lodge took its name from V. W. Bro. J. Heron Lepper, B.A., B.L., the great Irish Mason and Masonic historian, who was the Foundation Secretary. He was Past Senior Grand Deacon and, after removing to England, served as Librarian to the Grand Lodge of England from 1943 until his death in 1952.
